"art is a place for children to learn to trust their ideas, themselves, and to explore what is possible."

The Elements of Art focuses on the seven fundamental components of visual art: line, shape, form, space, color, value, and texture. These elements provide a foundation for creating art, improving artistic skills, and understanding how to analyze artworks. Students learn about the purpose of each element as a building block for creating impactful, elevated work and for developing a critical eye.

elements of art

The Principles of Art teaches young artists how to organize the elements of art (like line, color, shape) to create composition and convey meaning through the core principles of visual art: balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, unity, variety and proportion. These principles provide a foundation for students to develop more effective compositions and create elevated artworks.

principles of art

Students will learn art techniques, historical context, and art appreciation through projects inspired by famous artists. They will develop practical skills by experimenting with different mediums, and conceptual skills by understanding the artist's style, philosophy, and the historical period in which they worked.

famous artist inspired art

Through art history-inspired projects, students learn to combine historical knowledge with creative expression, developing skills like critical thinking, understanding cultural contexts, and connecting historical artistic styles to their own work.

art history

Students will learn to appreciate and understand different cultures through art, fostering empathy and a sense of global community. They will also develop artistic skills by exploring new materials, techniques, and perspectives from various cultures and time periods. This process encourages creativity while providing insights into diverse traditions, histories, and worldviews.

cultural art traditions

For students who are ready for advanced techniques, we build on foundational knowledge to increase technical skills in drawing and painting. They move beyond structured assignments to tackle larger, more complex projects that will challenge them and help them to explore styles and develop a personal artistic voice.

"art has the role in education in helping children become like themselves, instead of more like everyone else."

"my daughter has fallen in love with art!"

Natalie has been teaching my daughter art for several months and it's the activity she looks forward to the most.  She has fallen in love with art all over again.  Art has helped her to relax, have more self-confidence and decreased the amount of time she spends on her iPad.  I can't recommend Natalie's classes enough!

"Andrew has really improved a lot this year!"

Thank you so much for your classes this past year.  It has been amazing to watch how Andrew has really improved a lot this year.  Before your classes, he was drawing stick figures and now he can draw three dimensional realistic faces.  Your classes are a highlight of his week.
